What will my child gain from Cambridge National Sports Studies?
Learners will have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge about different types of sport and physical activity, skills development, and sports leadership to their own practice/performance. They will learn about contemporary issues in sport such as funding, participation, and sport and the media. Learners will be assessed both theoretically and practically.
Students will experience a mixture of theoretical and practical sessions throughout the course; however, the majority of the course will be theoretical. There is an expectation of approximately 2 hours per week of additional sporting activities undertaken by students, either in the Goldington Academy extra-curricular programme or outside of school to support learning. This ideally should be both performance and leadership based.
Course Assessment
This is a Cambridge National Level 1/2 Vocational course, which is equivalent to a GCSE, but it is marked on a different grading system.

Two Mandatory Units
-
Contemporary issues in sport
In this unit, you will learn about a range of topical and contemporary issues in sport, relating to participation levels and barriers, promotion of values and ethical behaviour, the role of high-profile sporting events, the role of national governing bodies, and how technology is used within sport.
-
Performance and leadership in sports activities
In this unit, you will learn how to develop your skills as both a performer, in two different sporting activities, and as a leader in one activity. As a leader, you will have the opportunity to plan, lead, and review safe and effective sporting activity sessions yourself.
