Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE)
The curriculum “DofE” is an all-encompassing, student-centred award. Completed during Year 10, it gives students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and personal skills, while also experiencing many practical elements.
The award is broken down into four sections:
-
Physical: During this section, students will be learning about health and fitness and how it can be developed into their everyday life. Students will plan and deliver multiple different fitness courses.
-
Skill: The skills section focuses on key life skills, including Microsoft ICT, home basics, understanding money, and careers.
-
Volunteering: As this course takes place during school time, the volunteering section will focus on fundraising for different communities within the school. Part of the fundraising will involve event organising as a group.
-
Expedition: Students will complete two expedition weekends of camping and walking. Lessons leading up to the expedition will include camp craft, navigation, and expedition planning.
Taking part in the DofE is a fantastic opportunity for pupils. Pupils will face challenging experiences, particularly during the expedition, but these challenges allow them to take responsibility in a safe environment and grow into responsible young adults. The award provides experiences that greatly enhance pupils’ chances of success in future interviews.
