The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (commonly abbreviated DofE), is the generic name for a youth awards programme founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, that has since expanded to 144 countries.
The DofE is a fantastic, structured programme which enables young people to develop and step outside of their comfort zone in a safe and supportive environment.
At Goldington Academy, we are proud to offer both the Bronze and Silver award. We believe it is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to broaden their experiences, give back to the community as well as developing the individual.
There are four components that need to be completed for pupils to receive their award. Below is what is required for pupils to complete their bronze award. This can be started in Year Nine. One of their Volunteering, Skill and Physical must be completed for 6 months.

The expedition is outsourced to outdoor specialists, Canoe Trail. Where possible, Goldington Academy staff will be present throughout the weekend. Pupils have the opportunity to either choose canoeing or walking for their expedition. On rare occasions, places may be limited if demand is high.
Taking part in the DofE is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to be involved with. Pupils will be met with difficult challenges, particularly on the expedition, but it gives them the chance to take responsibility in a safe environment and become responsible young adults. The award allows pupils to have experiences that will greatly enhance their chances of success in interviews.
Pupils will take the responsibility for their awards. They will be expected to attend meetings and keep up to date with their awards.
