The Importance of Health and Social Care in the Curriculum

Health and Social Care is a vocational subject which means that it is not purely academic, but instead involves learning skills that are useful for a particular job. It is industry relevant and geared to key sector requirements, which means it suits a broad range of learning styles and abilities.

Within Health and Social Care, pupils will sit two mandatory units and one further optional unit to gain a level 1 (two units) or level 2 (three units) certificate. In terms of assessment, pupils will be assessed through two written assignments and one written exam. The current units which are taught are:

  • RO32: Principles of care in health and social care settings (Mandatory exam unit)
  • RO33: Supporting individuals through life events (Mandatory coursework unit)
  • RO34: Creative and therapeutic activities (Optional coursework unit)

The course itself requires pupils to independently research different factors relating to health and social care and is very heavily coursework based. We are lucky enough to have a set of laptops that pupils can utilise to write up their coursework.

Any questions regarding the course please do contact Mrs Chapman (Head of vocational subjects) at chapmanl@goldington.beds.sch.uk.
