Our commitment to you
Goldington Academy seeks to provide a planned programme of careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) for students in partnership with Bedford Borough Council, training and HE providers, businesses, parents, alumni and other external agencies. This programme can be found in the Key Stage 3 and 4 sections and covers three main areas:
-
Self-development – enabling students to understand themselves, their strengths and the influences on them, acquiring the core competencies and skills necessary to give them access to a range of opportunities
-
Career Exploration – investigation of opportunities in work and learning, understanding the changing world of work and key labour market information
-
Career management – developing skills to enable students to make and adjust plans and to manage change and transitions
The Careers Programme
Our careers framework is linked to the Gatsby Benchmarks, CDI and PSHE frameworks. All students from Year 7 through to Year 11 are exposed to the many aspects of careers and citizenship work undertaken here at Goldington Academy, including a Life Skills programme delivered via the curriculum, tutor time activities, ‘Futures talks’ delivered by visitors from industry, assemblies, school trips/visits and themed weeks including National Careers Week and National Apprenticeship Week.
Alongside the careers education programme, students are also exposed to careers learning through their subject curriculum.
Each year the activities can vary depending on new schemes and initiatives which are introduced.
Goldington Academy measures and assesses the impact of the careers programme through staff and student surveys; Student Voice and by using the Compass+ tool each term to reflect on progress towards the Gatsby benchmarks. We encourage gauge parental feedback via our Parent Forum, and request employer feedback after engagement activities. We also work closely with our SEMLEP adviser to gauge the strengths of the careers programme against other schools in the borough and beyond.
