What Are A-Levels?

  • Academic qualifications usually studied over two years.
  • You choose 3–4 subjects you enjoy or need for your future career.
  • Ideal for students who want to progress to university or a higher-level apprenti ceship.
  • A-levels are assessed mostly through exams.

What Are Vocational Courses?

  • Practical, career-focused qualifications like BTECs or T Levels.
  • Often assessed through coursework and practical work, with some exams.
  • Designed to prepare you for a specific career or further training.
  • Can lead to university, apprenticeships, or employment.

What Are Apprenticeships?

  • A way to earn while you learn - combining a job with study. 
  • You get paid and work alongside experienced staff while gaining qualifications. 
  • Available from Level 2 (GCSE level) to Level 6/7 (Degree level). 
  • Ideal for students who want to enter the world of work but still gain training. 


What Are Traineeships? 

  • Short programmes (up to 6 months) designed to help you become work-ready.
  • Includes work experience, English and maths support, and employability training.
  • Great for students not quite ready for an apprenticeship or employment.
  • Usually aimed at 16–24-year-olds who are not currently in education or work.
