Welcome to the Goldington Academy website and can I wish everybody a very successful spring term 2026! You will find much useful information about our school on our website.
Goldington Academy is an 11-16 secondary school that serves the community of (North East) Bedford. The school is a popular and oversubscribed school that serves in excess of 940 students.
The school’s motto is “Engaging Minds, Nurturing Success and Inspiring Futures” and the school seeks to achieve this in many different ways. Ofsted last visited the school in February 2022. The report begins with the following paragraph:
“Pupils are proud of their school. They enthuse about it to their parents, who know that they feel safe and happy. Pupils have many subjects to choose from, so everyone gets a chance to shine. They know that leaders have very high expectations of what they can achieve.”
A copy of the full report can be found here.
Since the school converted to being an academy in 2011 it has benefitted from (in excess of) £15 million spent on the fabric of the site. Recent additions have included a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) jointly shared with the University of Bedford and in 2020 a new Arts Centre. In 2019 and 2020 the whole main building benefitted from a £7 million plus refurbishment funded through the government’s “Priority Schools Building Programme” and this has left the school in an excellent position for the 2020’s. In the summer of 2021 the school had £700,000 invested in the sports hall with both a new roof and new changing rooms. We also opened two new classrooms, re-tarmacked our hard court area, created a new mindfulness garden and re-opened our new improved library. In November 2021 we opened our new car park that gives visitors greatly improved access to school. Work continues on an almost constant basis, to ensure our school site is as inspiring as possible. For example, during summer 2023 we replaced our sports hall floor and put a new lighting system into our drama studio and in summer 2024 we have added two new classrooms to our school and refurbished two older science laboratories.
Every two years the school invites all stakeholders to give their views of the current performance of the academy. In October 2025 we had almost 900 pupils, over 250 parents and in excess of 70 members of staff respond to our most recent survey. The results of the October 2025 survey can be found here.
Between 2022 and 2024 the school achieved excellent GCSE results which consistently placed us in the top 5% of schools in the country.
In August 2025 we once again achieved excellent results. Our 2025 results can be found here.
The following link ranks us against all state schools in Bedfordshire.
The academy also has very high levels of attendance and low levels of exclusion. The following link shows our current attendance. Standards of behaviour at Goldington are very good.
Goldington's Curriculum of Intent statement can be found here. In addition the school has a wide ranging extra curricular programme, details of which can be found under the 'School Life' tab. A copy of our latest school newsletter can be found here.
The school believes strongly in excellent teaching, homework and the power of independent study. The latter includes a huge range of activities that may include, for example, music practice, football training and attendance at church/mosque events etc.
We hope you find this website helpful. All teacher email addresses can be found here but feedback can also come directly to myself or my Vice Principal, Mrs Chapman at any time, about any aspect of the academy and we will endeavour to answer your questions. Our email addresses are: galbraithf@goldington.beds.sch.uk, and/or chapmanl@goldington.beds.sch.uk. Four times a year we hold a Parents’ Forum which allows any parent to directly ask myself and Mrs Chapman any questions about the academy’s performance. Similarly, the academy has an excellent and proactive governing body under the chair of Mrs Azma Ahmad-Pearce. If you need to contact Mrs Ahmad-Pearce or the governors at Goldington Academy correspondence should be addressed to the Clerk to Governors, husseyr@goldington.beds.sch.uk.
We hope that your association with Goldington Academy is a long and happy one.
